How We Work

A plain account of how topics are chosen, how content is put together, and how we assess the products we write about.

Topics come from genuine reader need. That usually means questions people are actually asking, gaps in what's currently available for UK-based painters, or areas where the existing advice is vague, US-centric, or doesn't account for the realities of painting outside in Britain. We're not chasing trending search terms for their own sake.

What you'll actually find here is a mix of practical technique guidance, honest equipment assessments, and location-based content for painters exploring the UK. Some of it is aimed at people who've never painted outdoors before and want a clear, sensible starting point. Some of it assumes a bit more experience and goes deeper into specific challenges. All of it is written to be useful rather than impressive.

When we assess products, the questions we ask are fairly straightforward: does this perform well in the conditions UK outdoor painters actually face, does it represent reasonable value, is it practical to use in the field, and are there meaningful limitations a buyer should know about? We try to be clear about who a product suits and, just as importantly, who it probably doesn't.

We don't accept payment for coverage. Affiliate relationships exist to help fund the site, but they don't determine what gets covered or how it gets assessed. A product with no affiliate arrangement gets the same honest treatment as one that earns us a commission. We'd rather point someone away from a product that isn't right for them than nudge them towards something that earns us more.

Before anything is published, it goes through research, writing, and editorial review. Facts are checked, product information is verified where possible, and the copy is reviewed for accuracy and usefulness. We add last-updated dates to articles so readers can see when something was last looked at, and we review content on a rolling basis rather than leaving it to go stale.

If something is wrong, we want to know. Corrections are made promptly, and for anything material we note what changed and when. Write to us at hello@pleinairpainting.co.uk if you spot an error or think something needs revisiting.

A quick note...

We use analytics to see how the site is used and which guides are actually useful. No data is shared and you can opt out if you'd rather not.
